Daniel De Ridder - I've always thought this kid was going to be the next big thing in Dutch football when I saw him play for the Dutch U21's. I was in awe watching him dribble past 6 defenders in a row up until that double save sequence of Fabianski.

He was the only consistently effectively Wigan attacker against Arsenal, and completely outshone Valencia and Palacios. While he was playing against a young squad, he was still making basically every attack for Wigan.

Hopefully he will break out following this performance and continue this stellar form into league play, where he can be found out by a bigger club.

Nash 5/10 : Not a Premier League performance, looked shaky under high balls.
Melchiot 8/10 : Another professional performance from Captain Fantastic
Figueroa 7.5/10 : This guy is improving game by game. Another great signing.
Bramble 8/10 : Cool, calm and collected.
Boyce 8/10 : Pay him what he wants and get the contract extension signed.
De Ridder 8/10 : Fast, skilful and great at set pieces.
Brown 6/10 : Industrious but didn`t gel well with Cattermole.
Cattermole 6/10 :  See Brown, limped off late on.
Kapo 7/10 : Looked good in the first half, tired after the
break.
Heskey 8/10 : Summer break seems to have refreshed him, looks fit and sharp. Seemed to pick up an eye injury.
King 6/10 : Tried hard but not good enough.
Valencia 8/10 : A class act.
Palacios 8/10 : Centre midfield will be Wilson plus someone else.
Camara 7/10 : Trying really hard to convince Bruce he is worth an extended stay.
Zaki 9/10 : Only played for 30 odd minutes but was quick and dangerous every time he touched the ball. Well worth the wait.

Ratings:

7-Pollitt - Did well whenever called upon.
7-Melchiot - looked like he had a great understanding with de ridder.
8-Boyce - Solid no matter who he plays alongside
6-Scharner- Played about 15mins then went off injured.
7-Figueroa - Played well at left back at at centre back when scharner went of injured.
9-De Ridder - Great game 2 goals hit the bar once and missed a penalty this boy looks good though.
7-Palacios - Had one of his quieter days but could just of been becuase of how good cattermole played.
9-Cattermole - Signed for the club 5 hours before had never trained and looked the best player on the pitch. Very Very Impressive.
7-Kilbane - Played well in midfield and at left back.
7-Heskey - Worked hard scored a goal before he went off.
8-King - Good display my only problem was it looked like his level of defenders he was playing against.

Not going throught the subs there was too many.

Great performance though.

Daniël de Ridder heeft dinsdag een driejarig contract getekend bij Wigan Athletic. De oud-Ajacied wordt bij de club uit de Premier League herenigd met manager Steve Bruce, die hem vorig jaar naar Birmingham City haalde.

Bruce stapte in november vorig jaar over naar Wigan Athletic. De Ridder, die afgelopen seizoen slechts acht basisplaatsen kreeg in Birmingham, liet maandag met wederzijdse goedkeuring zijn contract ontbinden. Bruce hapte direct toe en lengde de transfervrije De Ridder (24) vast.

"Hij is een opwindende speler en ik weet zeker dat hij belangrijk gaat worden voor Wigan", aldus Bruce. De Ridder werd vorig jaar met Jong Oranje in eigen land Europees kampioen.

De aanvaller komt bij Wigan Athletic nog een Nederlander tegen, aanvoerder Mario Melchiot. "Hij heeft me alleen maar goede dingen over de club verteld", aldus De Ridder. "Door blessures kon ik afgelopen seizoen niet laten zien wat ik kan op dit niveau. Dit jaar wil ik presteren voor Steve en voor Wigan."
